This outcome was one of the goals of the former CTT Correios de Portugal (portuguese post office) CEO, Francisco Lacerda, but it was the current leader, João Bento, who brought it to fruition.
In Spain, CTT was already Amazon's delivery partner, and is now the first portuguese company to distribute to the North American e-Commerce giant.
CTT will deliver Amazon nationwide and across all product categories, reinforcing their express and delivery business area.
This contract reinforces the desire to increase the company's share within the delivery market, which corresponded to around 30% in 2018. This is because there is a clear downturn in the postal business and it is necessary to find alternatives to support it. CTT has a major advantage for the parcel services segment: the proximity factor and the fact that it does not have a competitor that is able to match it.
