E-commerce grows in Portugal and the food sector is in evidence.

In 2018, home meal deliveries rose 9% compared to 2017.

The Nielsen Connected Commerce Report 2018 analyses the development of e-commerce in Portugal: 94% of Portuguese with internet access have made at least one online purchase. And while these cover various sectors – travel, fashion, show tickets, stationery and technology – food is gaining in importance: compared to 2017, online meals purchase has risen by 9%.

As Mafalda Silva Ferreira, Senior Client Development at Nielsen, explains, “As confidence and consumption recover, Nielsen is seeing higher demand for solutions offering better quality of life … In fact, this can be seen in e-commerce too with convenience [meal deliveries] and leisure [travel] solutions growing substantially.”
